2/26 - 3/3/2013

Monday:  Lifted upper#1x3.  I was supposed to go to Plymouth State to watch the girls' varsity play in the semifinals but I was zonked.  I slept from 3pm to 4:30pm.  The girls ended up losing to a tough Groveton team.  Groveton has won 15 state titles since 1990 in girls' division IV hoops.  Our girls had an off night shooting which is just bad timing after an undefeated regular season.  The school and town are very proud of them.

Tuesday:  3 w/Jimmy on RT.  Lifted upper#2x2.  I didn't want to get out the door today, but I willed myself to at least walk Jimmy in running clothes.  My achilles was a nonissue.  My back is tight, so I decided I better lift again today.

Wednesday:  0.  No school because of snow and sleet.  I watched a Rambo marathon with Greg.  It's interesting to note that Rambo III was dedicated to "the gallant people of Afghanistan."

Thursday:  0.  I tried to run, but my back wasn't having it.  I walked for 20 minutes instead with several failed attempts at running.  It feels like my A.S. is coming back.  Maybe not.  Later at night I tried to lift, but the little school gym was locked.  I was 0 for 2.  Took advil.  I'm hoping this isn't as bad as it seems.

Friday:  0.  I hiked in the woods behind the house with Jimmy.  My back was manageable at work, but I took advil after school.  Tomorrow lift and run then head over Fyffe's to make maple syrup.

Saturday:  Lifted upperx2.  5 miles on roads w/Jimmy.  I ran from my house to the school to pick up Gina's car.  Fun running through town.  The ice fishermen were having a good day.  I saw two people hoist nice bass out of the setbacks.

Sunday:  3 miles roads of Hdale w/Jimmy.  My calves are sore from yesterday's road run.  In the pm I shot guns with Fyffe.  I haven't fired a gun in about ten years (maybe more).

2/18 - 2/24/2013

Monday:  Went for an hour walk on the RT in am.  Cold, sunny conditions.  High teens with strong wind gusts.  The ice fishermen looked happy on the CT River.

Tuesday:   Lifted upper#1x3.  Shot hoops after lifting w/Brandon (former athlete I coached for Bball). 1.5 on the RT w/Jimmy.  I was finally able to go beyond 3 minutes.  My achilles felt fine.  I didn't want to overdo it, so I kept it short.  I'm feeling good about today's run!

pm:  I scored the girls' playoff game.  They were down 8 - 6 after the first quarter, and ended up winning 46 - 14.  Talk about DEFENSE!  I'm pumped for them.  Our school hasn't won a state championship in any sport since 1995.  The girls are the number 1 seed after finishing 18 - 0 for the regular season.  Fingers crossed that this is the year!

Wednesday:   Lifted upper#2 x 3.

2 miles up Reservoir Rd w/Jimmy.  Trails were incredibly icy, so I kept it short.

Thursday:  4 on RT w/Jimmy.  I could have used ice skates on the trails today.  Besides the ice, it was an awesome blue sky day.

Friday:  Lifted upper#1 x3.  Tried running, but my achilles was bothering me.  I probably did too much yesterday, or maybe it didn't like the roads.

Saturday:  Walked the wolves w/Greg at Daniels Mtn.  Played hoops w/Greg.

Sunday:  3 miles on RT w/Jimmy.  The 1 inch of new snowfall really improved the traction.  The ice underneath has softened up.  My achilles felt fine today.

2-11 - 2/17/2013

Monday:  0.  I ordered new shoes - Brooks Ghost 5.  I'm excited to run, but I can wait for my new kicks.
Achilles was not an issue at all today.  My hamstrings are pretty destroyed from shoveling.

Tuesday:  Lifted upperx2.  I was a little sore from Sunday's session still.  I had to score the girls' games at night.

Wednesday:  0.  I scored the girls' varsity game.  They are 17-0.  One more game to go in the regular season.  Senior night at home on Friday against a 16-1 team.  Should be a battle and possibly a preview of a postseason matchup.  Go Pacers!  Shoes should be in tomorrow.  Achilles is a nonissue in day to day activities.

Thursday:  0.

Friday:  0.  Scored the girls' games.  Varsity girls went undefeated in a thriller!

Saturday:  Lifted am upperx3.  Shot hoops w/Joe.  I tried running today w/Jimmy in Pisgah.  My achilles bothered me.  Two tears in a bucket.  I guess I'll focus on getting huge until it's ready.

Sunday:  Lifted #2x2.  Shot hoops after lifting.

2/4 - 2/10/2013

Monday:  0.  I'm still resting the achilles + a little tired from the late night watching the Superbowl.

Tuesday:  0.  I ran for 3 minutes, but my achilles just wasn't ready.  It's not terrible, but I would rather take a few days off (4 so far) rather than need 6 weeks off.  I saw 3 ruffed grouse sitting on the ground at the end of my driveway.  Maybe they were getting gravel from my driveway?  I've heard they do this to aid digestion.  I lifted in the pm and had to score the boys' games.

Wednesday:  0.  I made it another 3 minutes today on the RT.  My achilles didn't bother me at all today in school.  Stairs weren't an issue, but I felt it on my run.  More rest and maybe some new shoes will fix it.

Thursday:  2 w/Jimmy RT.  I wore my old shoes on this one.  I could feel a little twinge today.  I'm happy to get anything over 3 minutes today.

Friday:  1 mile at Kilburn w/Jimmy.  I turned back because of my achilles.  I wish it felt like the achilles in the above clip instead of the one in the below clip.  I'm going to take a few more days off and buy new shoes.  I lifted upperx3 in the am.  No school today because of the impending blizzard.

Saturday:  0.  Shoveled all day.

Sunday:  0.  Lifted upper x 3 in am.  Walked Jimmy on the RT.  Nice sunny day.  Temps were in the low 20's when I went for my walk.
