Weekending 12/4

Monday: o. 1st day of JV practice.

Friday: 0. Had practice + I watched the girls home opener. Went on three walks w/Jimmy.

Saturday: 4 in Pisgah w/Jimmy. Nice chilly morning.

Sunday: 4 w/ Joe and Tim, Hinsdale Rail Trail. +1 and hill sprints w/Jimmy in Friedsam. Lifted upper x2 before practice.

weekending 11/27

Monday: o. I am sore!

Tuesday: 2.5 in Friedsam w/Jimmy. Slow, recovery pace run. Glad I ran, but man I'm still sore. Lifted upper x2 before tryouts.

Wednesday: 0. Feeling lazy.

Thursday: 4.5 w/ 3 mile race in 22:06. I was still quite sore from Lil' Rhody. I started many rows back and picked it up. This slow start felt way better than going out too fast on Sunday. 7:51, 7:02, 7:12.

Friday: 3 in Friedsam w/Griffin and Jimmy. I'm still pretty sore, especially my right quad.

Saturday: 5 w/Greg and wolves in Pisgah.

Sunday: 3 w/Jimmy in Friedsam.

weekending 11/20

Monday: Lifted upper x 2. Walked Jimmy in Friedsam. Getting over a crappy cold. Coughing a ton at night.

Tuesday: 1.5 in Friedsam w/Jimmy. Turned around when rifle blasts sounded uncomfortably close. First run in over a week. Had awards night for XC. That season is officially over. Basketball starts next Monday.

Wednesday: Meetings + laziness = 0.

Thursday: 5 miles in Friedsam w/Jimmy. 43 minutes. Wow. This is the longest I've run in 3 weeks. Lil' Rhody is going to hurt!

Friday: 0. Lifted upper x2. Drove to Rhody.

Saturday: 0. Hiked 4 miles. Marked the course with Pard.

Sunday: 9.5 miles w/ Lil' Rhody Trail Race. Warm (Hot) weather. 10 minutes warm up. I went out a little too fast today. I was hoping to break 60, but I just haven't been running enough this last month. I shouldn't have worn my Kinarvas; they don't cushion/protect me from the roads. I started cramping on the last .9 road section. Fun day. 62:16, 59th place.

I made it to the starting line of Lil' Rhody. On Thanksgiving, I'm running in Brattleboro. Who knows what I'll run for 5k? 22:30? Faster? Slower? We'll see.

Saturday: 0 running. I climbed Monadnock today with my class. Beautiful day.

Sunday: 6 Beals + Nash and back. Hot weather. I ran at noon because I watched the Chicago marathon in the am. I missed the beautiful brisk morning. Suffered on the final climb due to the heat.

Friday: 0. Had a meet.

Saturday: 5 with Greg and the wolves around Beals Knob. Race tomorrow.

Sunday: Pisgah 23k race. Log 15.5. Tough race. I didn't see my official time, but it was somewhere in the 2:08 region - my second best time here.

Monday: 7 in Pisgah w/Jimmy. Felt like I hadn't run in a while. Beautiful weather.

Tuesday: 0. Exhausted after first day w/ kids. Walked in Friedsam w/Gina and Jimmy.

Wednesday: 4 in Pisgah w/Jimmy. Felt tight to start, but I really loosened up. P.A.L. w/team.

Thursday: 3 in Pisgah w/Jimmy + Fartlek. Felt ok. Still adjusting to the exhaustion of teaching.

Friday: 0. worn out!

Saturday: 7 w/ team in Pisgah. Very easy pace.

Sunday: 9 w/ Jimmy in Pisgah. Lily/Nash. Felt pretty decent.

Thursday: 0. Worn out from first day of workshops. Last night of Fun Runs.

Friday: Lifted upperx2.

Saturday: 4.5 in Pisgah w/team. Nice and easy.

Sunday: 1.5 + 3 hill repeats in Pisgah. I wanted to get out after the storm for about 5 miles, but it was still windy. I decided to make it short and hit the big hill up to Horseshoe Parking a few times. 14 minutes total running.

Monday: 7. Fullam w/Jimmy. Ran at 1:00pm. Weird weather - cool rain showers mixed with oppressive heat and deerflies. Swam in the pond. 43 to go.

Tuesday: 7. Mini-Vistas w/Boj and Jimmy. I was going to zero today, but Boj got me out the door. 36 to go.

Wednesday: 0. Played Hoops. A lot of fun!

Thursday: 3. Fun run. 2.3 in 15:30. 33 to go.


Friday: 8. Nash w/Greg and wolves. Felt decent. 25 to go.



Saturday: am: 4 w/Jimmy in Friedsam.

noon: 8 around Hinsdale after cross country sign-ups. 13 to go.

Sunday: 14 in Pisgah w/Jimmy. Chestnut, Res. down to the swimming spot, ten minutes up the Ridge, Res. home. 1:53. I don't want to say this run was easy, but I sure am getting stronger. Felt good reached 301!

Monday: 7.5 w/Jimmy in Pisgah (Nash). Tough, hot, deerfly ridden run. I survived. 87 miles to go!

Tuesday: 3.5 w/Jimmy in Friedsam. Almost took a day off. Glad I didn't! 83.5 to go.

Wednesday: Lifted upper x3. Played hoops.

Thursday: 1pm: 9 w/Jimmy. Kilburn Loop +. Tired, heavy legs.

6:30pm: Hinsdale Fun Run. 1 mile -- 6:17. Jogged the 2.3.
4 total. 70.5 to go.

Friday: 0. Hiked up Mount Monadnock with middle school kids. Long day.

Saturday: 7.5 Nash w/Jimmy. Felt decent. 63 to go.

Sunday: 13 Vistas 1:41 w/Jimmy. Not too shabby. 50 to go.

Monday: 2 miles in Pisgah w/Jimmy. It poured, so I hammered. This is a humble start to the week, but it's better than my last 2 Mondays. Lifted upper x 3.

Tuesday: 5 miles in Friedsam w/Jimmy. Easy run.

Wednesday: 0 miles. Lifted upper x2. 2 hours of hoops w/team and Boj.

Thursday: 0. Fun Run night.

Friday: am: 7.5 w/Griffin and Jimmy. Nash loop. 59 minutes. Nice and relaxed.

Saturday: am: 5 miles Daniels Mtn via Plain Rd parking w/Jimmy and Griffin. Fun run on tough terrain.

Sunday: 3 w/fartlek. Smooth and quick on the pick-ups. Felt great.

Friday: am: 4 in Kilburn w/Jimmy. Wow, I ran at 7:30 and it was already miserably hot and humid.

noon: Lifted upper x 3.

Saturday: am: 3 miles in Friedsam. pm drove down to CT for Tyson's stag party.

Sunday: Drove back from CT in am.

pm: Should have run. The weather was cooler and beautiful for running, but I went fishing w/Joel on Highland Lake instead. Fun day.

weekending 7/17

Monday: 0. Lifted upper x 2. Back very tight!

Tuesday: 0. Back tight + summer school + summer camp + 90 degree weather = no running.

Wednesday: 3 in Friedsam w/Jimmy. Felt like I hadn't run in a month! Lifted upper x2. Played hoops in the pm. Back feeling decent.

Thursday: 0. Sore and lazy from hoops. This is shaping up to be a decent week of lethargy!

Friday: am: 3.5 in Pisgah w/Jimmy. Felt like rubbish.

noon: Lifted upper x 2. No energy.

Saturday: am: 7 Monadnock Sunapee Greenway w/Jimmy. I parked off Route 9 near Granite Lake and headed south. I was hoping to go longer, but I came to a paved road and I didn't have a leash for Jimmy.

pm: 4.5 in Putney solo. I got really hot by the end of this run which made the frigid, cold water that much sweeter.

Sunday: am: 12 Vistas in Pisgah w/Jimmy in 1:46. Hot/tough run. I suffered on the Ridge section, but recovered on Hubbard. I walked the last hill back to the Horseshoe parking lot. Whippers (when sticks get whipped from one leg into the achilles of your other leg) shuck! I experienced about 3 whippers including a nasty one on the descent from Hubbard that made me fall while simultaneously gashing my right calf. I survived and had fun!

weekending 7/10

Monday: am 6. Four on the Fourth road race. 27:31-34. I missed sub 27:30 by a hair. Didn't feel good. The roads really beat me up. 6:25, 6:44 (13:10 halfway), 7:11, 7:11. I went out a little too fast.

Tuesday: 0. Took kids hiking in Pisgah. Saw a bear on the way to get the kids from school.

Wednesday: am 3 w/Jimmy in Friedsam. Back tight. Caught 2 nice largemouths on Spofford today.

Thursday: am 8 w/Jimmy around Kilburn. Ran into Greg and Jenny w/Griffin. Nice swim as usual.

Friday: 0. Went canoeing with middle school camp. Fun day. Lifted upper x2.

Saturday: am 8 with 4 mile tempo mixed in. For some reason I decided to run fast from the gun. This made the last uphill miles a struggle. Nash/Southwoods. 4 striders after run. Feeling tight!

Sunday: am 4 w/ Jimmy at Kilburn. Felt like crap. Back was awful last night, but a little better today.

weekending 7/3

Monday: 3 in Friedsam w/Jimmy + 5 x 60 meter hill sprints. Went bass fishing again today. I lost two on the grass frog. I need to use the trailer hook.

Tuesday: am 9 Kilburn + w/Greg and wolves. Super sluggish run. Swim felt great. Greg dove in after my car key and found it on the murky, twelve foot deep bottom. It was awesome. Our day would have really sucked without it!
pm 2 Friedsam w/Jimmy. Pushed this one in places. Felt decent.

Wednesday: am 4 miles Beals Knob w/Jimmy. Felt crappy. I need an easy run. All my runs are uphill (upmountain) on the way back. This is mentally draining. Of course, I've also hit 40 miles for the last 6 days, so physically I'm a little drained as well.

pm 3. Ran the Keenyan way at Monadnock track. I ran a mile to get a marker for where I'm at fitness wise. 6:09. I was hoping to break 6, but I haven't broken the pain barrier for a long time. I really can't be too disappointed. It is what it is. I'm going to go down to Rhody and catch some stripers and fluke then run the 4 on the 4th Monday. I'm shooting for a sub 27:30.

Thursday: am 8 miles Kilburn w/Jimmy. Tough, slow run. My legs felt really tired on this one. Glad I ran. Lifted pm upper x3 with Greg in Rhody.

Friday: 0. Went fishing all day then ate fish tacos when we got back. Fun day. We hammered 'em. No 40/40 club though! Pard caught the biggest striper in the 25 pound range.

Saturday: am 11 miles w/Jonny and Greg + Griffin in Burlingame. Fun run. My legs felt good. Great trails. Sammy C and some obscure mtn. bike trails.

Sunday: am 3 miles w/Jimmy in Pisgah. + 5 striders. Feeling decent. Deer Flies are up to full force!

Good week. Catching stripers was the highlight. My run with my brothers was a great one. My tough runs in Pisgah paid off, and I was able to hang with my bros. I'm excited to race tomorrow, not because I think I'll set any pr's (23:20 14yrs ago), but because I want to run tough and have fun!
Next week Hinsdale Fun Runs start. Hopefully some of my kids show up. I'm shooting for another 40 mile week.

Weekending 6/26

Monday: 0. Lifted upper x 2. Went fishing on Spofford with Jonny Dubbs.

Tuesday: am 2 miles in Friedsam w/Jimmy. I decided to hammer a short one nice and early before school.
pm 9 miles around Kilburn ext. w/Jimmy. Got caught by Greg and Ferenc (and wolf pack) 40 minutes into my run. I pushed this one in places.

Wednesday: 0.

Thursday: 0. Last day of school!!!!

Friday: 5 pm in Friedsam w/Jimmy. I was supposed to go cod fishing, but the trip got cancelled due to huge waves at The Flemish Cap.

Saturday: 8 miles am Nash w/ Jimmy. We flushed a mother ruffed grouse and her chicks. I've been tight in my upper back at night. I need to lift.

Sunday: 1 am in Friedsam w/Jimmy. My 2 pairs of shoes that I normally wear are soaked. I tried some oldies which were hurting my feet and achilles, so I aborted the run. I'll try again in the pm. Plank routine. Caught a bass on a grass frog -- sure sign of summer!
8 pm Kilburn w/Jimmy. New shoes (saucony kinvara) felt good. Tried to break an hour... 59:49.

Monday: 0. Academic Awards Night. Would have been a great night for a run. My schedule didn't allow it.

Tuesday: 0. Feeling lazy. Basically I realized school is almost over and I acted accordingly.

Wednesday: 3 in Pisgah w/ Jimmy. Nice night for a run. Felt like I hadn't run in weeks!

Thursday: 3 in Friedsam w/Jimmy. This one felt a little better even though I went fishing and swimming (+ chromium) before hand.

Saturday: 0. Sick.

Sunday: 7 am w/Jimmy and Griffin in Pisgah. Mini vistas loop. Yesterday took a lot out of me. Felt sluggish and slow.

Tuesday: 7 in Pisgah w/ Jimmy. Swam in Fullam. Lifted 1 set upper. I'm pretty sore-- wakeboarding?

Wednesday: 0. Shut my eyes at 6:45 pm to rest before my run. I woke up at 4 the next morning! Whoops.

Thursday: 0. Awards Night.

Friday: 0. B-ball am. I'm really racking up the zeroes. Retirement party.

Saturday: 8 w/Jimmy in Pisgah. Kilburn Loop. Nice rainy morning. 7.5 pm w/ Jenny & Greg + wolves. Tough run. Jenny cranked, and I hung on. Big double!

Tuesday: 2 miles in Pisgah w/Jimmy. I cranked this just to get it over with. Jimmy chased a porcupine (no quills). Still have a wicked sore throat.

Wednesday: Tornadic conditions.

Thursday: 3 miles in Pisgah w/ Jimmy. Cool weather felt good.

Friday: Lifted upper x2. Played hoops in the early am.

Saturday: 6 miles w/ Joe & Tim + wolves in Pisgah. Went wakeboarding. I shuck!!! Tweaked my back.

Sunday: 6 miles w/Jimmy. Beals/Nash/Beals in Pisgah. Back a little tight from yesterday's wakeboarding adventures.

Saturday: 4 miles, Beals Knob w/Jimmy. Felt slow and out of shape.

Sunday: 3 miles w/Jimmy in Friedsam. Caught two 10" brook trout on Otter Brook. I also caught a 5 inch atlantic salmon. I think I lost my cell phone too. These are the sacrifices one must make to the fish gods.

Yadaftadatin again.

My 5 day trip to Shenandoah, Joel's wedding, track practice and meets, plus a general feeling of lethargy has kept me from updating my blogs. I'm back at it. I had a nice four mile run today in Pisgah with Jimmy. Despite having just eaten, I didn't feel too shabby (or too good ;) ). No races on the horizon. I should probably jump in one at the end of May or early June.

Monday: 0. Threw jav and disc with team.

Tuesday: 2 miles w/ team + lifted upper x2 + 2 sets medicine ball burpees with Greg. Almost out of the woods with my cold.

Wednesday: 3 miles w/Jimmy in Pisgah. Wow, I felt so out of shape after my layoff from being sick!

Thursday: 1 mile w/Jimmy in Friedsam. Long day at work and practice (handed out uniforms + other details), so I didn't have much energy for a run.

Friday: 0. Walked w/ Greg, Jen, and the wolves during the snowstorm.

Saturday: 2 miles in Friedsam w/Jimmy. Lifted upper x3

Weekending 3/27

Monday: 0. First Track practice. Did form drills. Lifted upper with Greg at night.

Tuesday: 2 miles w/ team + 3 miles in Friedsam w/Jimmy. Feeling good.

Wednesday: 3 miles in Friedsam w/Jimmy + Form drills w/team.

Thursday: 0. I need to lift.

Friday: Lifted upper x3. I have a crappy cold.

Saturday: Threw the discus today. I still feel sick.

Sunday: I ran 1 mile in Friedsam w/Jimmy. I'm still sick. Didn't have the energy to really run.

Weekending 3/20

Monday: Lifted upper x3. 4 miles in Pisgah w/Jimmy. Slow, sloppy conditions. Feel decent.

Tuesday: 0. I had basketball awards tonight which is always a fun event. Got home late.

Wednesday: Lifted upperx3 + free squats and plyos.

Thursday: Had a conference in Bristol tonight. Got home late.

Friday: 3 mile run with/ Jimmy Beals Knob. Beautiful weather. The trails were treacherous; they had rivers of melting snow underneath what looked like safe thick snow. I punched thru up to my shins several times. Played a little 1 on 1 after school.

Saturday: 0. Drove down to Rhody. Lifted upper x 3.

Sunday: 5 miles w/ Jonny and Griffin to the Bridge over Perry Healy Brook. Nice to run in Rhody. Feeling pretty good. Lifted again x 1. pm: Hike in Friedsam w/ Jimmy & Griffy.

Weekending 3/13

Monday: Lifted upper x2 benched for max: 240 on the easy machine. Ice storm. We still had school. It is absolutely beautiful but the trees and trails are taking a real hit.

Tuesday: 3 miles in Friedsam w/Jimmy. Tried to run at horseshoe, but the road was unpassable because of the ice storm yesterday.

Wednesday: 3 miles in Friedsam w/Jimmy. I was able to get a run in starting at 5:15pm. Gotta love the longer days!

Thursday: 3 miles in Friedsam w/Jimmy. Just another 3 mile day. Feeling pretty good!

Friday: Lifted upper x3. Walked w/ Greg, Jenny and the wolves in Pisgah. Fun walk. I've been starting on the wrong leg for years!!! Man, I could have been state champ in the 3000 if only I had better starts ;)

Saturday: 7 miles w/Greg and wolves in Pisgah. Good run. Saw a small flock of snow buntings in the parking lot.

Sunday: 1 mile in Friedsam w/Jimmy. I lost one of my running gloves yesterday. I tried this one sans gloves. My hands were freezing and I turned back.

I lost one of my running gloves on Saturday. It was my only running pair. Otherwise, this was a good week for me. Daylight savings is going to make running after school (and its plethora of meetings) a little easier. I'll continue doing the melt trails dance!

Friday: 3 miles in Friedsam w/Jimmy.

Saturday: 3 miles in Friedsam w/ Jimmy and Griffin. Still tons of snow on the trails. Should be a good dent taken out this weekend. Not on the run... We saw a mink tonight crossing the road!

Sunday: 1 mile s.s. run w/Jimmy in Friedsam. Too much post holing even with the snowshoes.

Week ending 2/20

Monday: 0. We had an away game at Bratt. We lost by 6 which is a heck of a lot better than the 20 we lost by the first time we played them. Tomorrow I'm canceling practice so I can lift and run (and let my sick and beat up team rest).

Tuesday: 2 mile run w/ Jimmy in Friedsam. Lifted upper x2. Benched for max with some of my students. Got 230, but couldn't get 240.

Wednesday: Meetings after work. 0. Played hoops with the team at practice.

Thursday: 3 mile run w/Jimmy, Beals Knob. Lifted upper x2. Played 1 on 1 and 2 v 2 at practice.

Friday: 4 w/ Greg and wolves, Beals Knob.

Saturday: 1 mile run/post hole shuffle in Friedsam w/ Jimmy. I tried to run without my snowshoes; it was a bad idea! Windy weather.

Sunday: 3 mile s.s. run w/ Jimmy in Friedsam. Felt good. The conditions were fast, so I cranked. Lifted upperx2. Played a little 3 on 3. Fun day.

Weekending 2/13

Monday: 0. Played hoops with the team

Tuesday: 0. Lifted upperx3. Hiked in Friedsamw/Jimmy. Wind is really whipping!

Wednesday: 0. We had a home game-we lost. I also had to give a presentation to the entire high school and middle school faculty which I think was a win. ;)

Thursday: 0. Ran laps with the team and shot around. Walked Jimmy in Friedsam. This is going to be a tough week to train. I've got another game tomorrow and I'm hiking all day Saturday with a class in Pisgah. The key is I'm still active.

Friday: Lifted upper2x3. Had a game tonight. We won! It was particularly satisfying since we lost earlier to this team by 30.

Saturday: 4 mile snowshoe in Pisgah w/ class. What a great day! Trail blazing and kids being kids. We had a lot of fun. I felt like Pard a few times out there when I had to remind the kids about their woods' voices! It took me back in time.

Sunday: 3 mile run w/ Jimmy in Friedsam. Lifted upper x2. Benched 230 once on the machine. Feeling good!

Week ending 2/6/2011

Monday: 0. Had an away game at Wilton.

Tuesday: 0. The snow is piling up again. Game against Monadnock is postponed.

Wednesday: 4 miles 51 minutes in Friedsam w/Jimmy.
Deep powder. I decided to not bring snowshoes since it was only about 9 inches on top of the packed down trails. For fun, I jumped into the snow off the trail; it's about mid thigh! Happy Ground Hog's Day!

Thursday: 0. Lifted upper1x3. Had a game today. We lost by 20. We really don't look that bad. We just couldn't spit in the ocean.

Friday: 0. Played hoops with the team.

Saturday: 3 mile snowshoe run w/ Jimmy & Griffin in Friedsam. I opted out of the race today, so I could play with the dogs. Interesting observation: The bridges' hand rails are about knee height with all the snow on them. It makes it feel like you could fall off!

Sunday: 2 mile run w/ Jimmy in Friedsam. I went sans snowshoes. It was fun. It was gorgeous, sunny weather. Lifted upper x2. Played hoops with the team.

Wintah!

I'm blogging because I'm bored. I ran today for the first time in a while. I shoveled half my driveway until my generous, kind, and all around awesome neighbor plowed the rest with his John Deer. I've done pushups and light stretching. I filed my taxes (Gina gets most of the credit here). I even did a little planning for school. Snow days are good!!!

I figured now I can think of where I want this year to go fitness wise. I need to continue lifting and being active. It feels great to not think about my back every waking second. Lifting has been the cure for my years of pain. I am really lucky to have the little gym at our school, so I don't have to drive into Keene just to pump a little iron. I haven't taken my medicine in at least 2 months.

I had fun racing at the Hoot Toot & Whistle snowshoe race a couple weekends ago. Even though it's going to feel like a marathon, I'm going to race at Northfield this Saturday. Racing will hopefully keep me motivated through the winter. Here's what I need to do this February:

1. Run at least 3 x week.
2. Lift 3 x week.
3. Race twice.
4. Make vacation a week with 5 days of running.

That should keep me busy. I would love to feel like I'm starting with a little fitness once Spring hits. I hope everyone else is enjoying the snow!

Hoot'n and Toot'n

Yesterday, I headed out to Readsboro Vt. for a snowshoe race. Here are the results.

I hadn't raced on snowshoes in a couple years, so I was pretty excited to enjoy the tons of snow that has been hammering New England. It took me about an hour to get there. It was a nice drive over through Brattleboro and over Hogback Mountain. The views driving on Rte. 9 were pretty awesome.

I checked in and boarded a school bus to be ushered to the start of the point to point race. The temp was around 12 degrees for the 10am start. Despite Greg's concern about my gear, I felt like I was going to be plenty warm during the run. We got to the start and had a couple minutes to get ready for the gun. I started in the middle of the pack, which was probably too conservative.

The race started with about a 100 yard straight-a-way on a snowmobile width trail. It immediately took a sharp turn down a very steep hill. I avoided falling, but many around me went down face first or head over heals. Once the hilarity of the hill was behind, I fell in a long, slow moving line on deep single track. I knew it was going to be hard to pass on this course.

Every 5 minutes there would be an opportunity to sprint past runners in the crusty, deep snow to the side. You basically had to double your pace to make a pass. It required a lot of energy, but I enjoyed the challenge of moving forward. I entered the single track behind the third female. She ended up in 21st place, so I figure I was in about 24th place with only single track for the rest of the way.

I kept passing runners and looking ahead to see if I would eventually get to a point where I wasn't right on someone's heels. It wasn't going to happen. A few runners fell, which allowed for a guilt ridden pass. Oh well that's racing! With approximately a quarter mile to go, I caught up to the woman's leader Amy Lane. She was moving pretty well, and I didn't think I would be able to pass her until she fell face first. I passed her and held on for 8th place.

I ended up only a minute+ behind the winner Ken Clark. He, Tim Van Orden, and Tim Mahoney had the horrible duty of breaking trail. The conditions made it tough to pass, but easy to keep the leaders in sight. It was a fun day, and I'm looking forward to putting on the old snowshoes again this winter!

Monday: Lifted Upper2 x 3. Went for max on the bench press machine. 220! I know it's not free weights, but it still felt pretty good. I need to get to the gym and try this with free weights to find my real max. Not bad for 140ish.

Tuesday: Beals Knob hike w/Griffy and Jimmy.

Wednesday: Shoveled and played in the snow.

Thursday: Lifted upper1 x 3 + power-cleans. Hiked w/ Jimmy in the deep snow in Friedsam.

Friday: Hike w/ Jimmy in Friedsam.

Saturday: Hike up Beals Knob w/ Jimmy.

Sunday: Lifted upper1 x 3. Hike in Friedsam w/Jimmy. Ran 25 laps w/team. I won't count it. Feeling good!

Week ending 1/2/2011

Monday: 2 running w/Jimmy. I ran to and from Friedsam then ran when I felt like it once in the woods. 4 miles hike/run with 50%running. Oh yeah, it was in a foot of powder. Fun, beautiful stuff!

Tuesday: Lifted upper1X 3 plus lunges.

Wednesday: Lifted upper2x3 plus power cleans. Nice long snowshoe hike in Pisgah w/ Greg and wolves.

Thursday: Hiked in am 2.5 w/ Jimmy. Pm: Beals Knob w/Jimmy mixed in running. 1 mile.

Friday: Am: Beals Knob with Jimmy.

Saturday: Happy New year! 4 miles in Pisgah w/Jimmy. Fun run. I saw moose tracks, 2 Pileated Woodpeckers, and Jimmy and I sprinted and dove behind a tree to hide from a fleet of earth rapers I mean snowmobiles.

Sunday: 6 miles w/Jimmy: Beals, Nash, Fullam. Took hard fall. The trails are icy, mushy, and sloppy from the warm weather. Saw some fresh moose tracks near the old ones from yesterday.

Bring on 2011

The New Year is here. My comeback started in the middle of July, so this isn't the end of a year of training for me. I'll keep it short and sweet.

The last month my running has gone out the window with coaching, but I've been lifting 3x per week and playing hoops with the team. I'm feeling better than I've felt in a long time. I realize the importance of strength training.

Today, I did a four mile run in Pisgah. It's amazing how much faster I can run when I'm not in pain. I'm looking forward to continued lifting and sneaking in a run when my schedule allows. I should be back in the swing of things once basketball winds down. Here are some 2011 goals:

1. Keep lifting 3 x week.
2. Run a sub 20 5k.
3. Go to Wednesday workouts this summer.
4. Beat my 2010 Pisgah time.
5. Beat my 2010 Lil Rhody time.
6. Have Fun!

That should do it. Enjoy 2011 everyone!
